FMCA Chapter: Habitat for Humanity® Build Report

GREELEY, CO
Condensed from reports submitted by
Team Leaders Benny & Nancy Barker

At noon on June 9, 2000-2002five coaches began arriving at the Greeley, CO build site. We parked on a cul-de-sac near the homes we would be building. The on-site supervisor had a long, somewhat awesome, list of things for us to do. We focused on the house they wanted to be completed by July 1. The first week we sided, caulked, ran TV and telephone wiring, installed attic fans, papered and shingled the roof and constructed two utility sheds.

The second week the insulation and drywall arrived so we put them to good use. By mid week we had accomplished so much that the super redirected some of the team to other locations. The Greeley affiliate was really surprised at all the work we had done. They were very supportive and had the best inventory of tools we had ever seen.

There was local newspaper and TV coverage of the build and we all got a good laugh of what we later read and saw on TV. Most of our team were first-time Habitat builders and we were encouraged when they talked of signing up for future builds. Two couples even arranged to stay and help at Greeley even after our build was officially over.
