FMCA Chapter: Habitat for Humanity® Build Report

Kenai, Alaska
Team Leaders: Wally & Judy Starz

On July 9th, 16 chapter volunteers strapped on tool belts, eager to begin a week of building and lending a hand in Kenai, Alaska. Kenai is a small city in the Alaskan frontier; where wild animals roam freely, glaciers in full view, and the fireweed is brilliant. A city dedicated to fishing, tourism and committed to lending a hand to those in need thru Habitat for Humanity.

The Habitat home was located in an area of the city that was cleared of trees just 4 weeks earlier. A mother moose and her baby visited our job site most every day, which added to everyone s excitement and provided another photo opportunity.

Our hosts provided several meals, including a fresh salmon, halibut, and clam (they dug them) chowder soup dinner for our farewell sendoff. This was a positive build with an open invitation to our chapter to return next year.

Team members: Wally and Judy Starz, David and Nancy Jo Fridline, Paul and Joyce Beaudet, Bill and Barb Zaharevich, Lenny and Bev Blue, Steve and Sharin Housley, Eddie and Billie Howell and Gary and Pat Krumweide.
