Build Reports Song

Perry 2002 FMCA-HABITAT Build
(Tune: Battle Hymn of the Republic)

In spring-time Perry Georgia on the I -75,
FMCA Habitat builders helped to keep the dream alive
To build a home for JoAlice and her progeny of five
And the dream goes marching on.

We are building habitat houses
We are building habitat houses
We are building habitat houses
And the dream goes marching on.

Our leaders, Dale and Millie, gathered up the motley crew
Of motor-homers in their fancy rigs both old and new
We came from far and near, even from Canada a few (eh!)
And the dream goes marching on.

We are building habitat houses
We are building habitat houses
We are building habitat houses
And the dream goes marching on.

We gathered in Fair Harbor ‘bout a day or two ahead
We met our local leaders, Nancy, Rob, Ray, Bob & Fred
We set to work and laid the floor and raised the walls and said
Let the dream go marching on.

The rafters were too many and then suddenly too few
Each day devotions, and one day duct-tape around our shoes
We nailed the roof and painted trim and insulated too
And the dream goes marching on.

We are building habitat houses
We are building habitat houses
We are building habitat houses
And the dream goes marching on.

The whole crew helped with siding from the ground to gable tip
With channels H & J, levels and angles that won’t fit
The siding almost finished WHEN ** we heard an awful scream
The dry wall fell on Rosemary and dislocated her knee

She acted like a trooper and the ambulance arrived
We cried, but she was cheerful and she kept our spirits high
JoAlice bore her bruise in silence and with dignity
Then we all kept building on

We are building habitat houses
We are building habitat houses
We are building habitat houses
And the dream goes marching on.

Our job was finished early so we got at break in time
To visit Wal*Mart, churches, stores and places where to dine
The food was often chicken, even beef turned into fown
But the dream went marching on.

We shared in the community, their vision and their dream
We came as strangers but we leave as friends, a building team
With mem-o-ries of faith and love full of hu-manity
And the dream goes marching on

We are building habitat houses
We are building habitat houses
We are building habitat houses
And the dream goes marching on !!
