| We left the Indio Fairgrounds after the Western Area Rally and caravanned to Lake Perris State Park. Since Larry Fosler lives in the Lake Perris area, he knew the area and it was an easy hour trip. We were very fortunate in getting free camping at the park because of our Habitat mission.
Sunday night the Unitarian Universalist Church gave us a welcome dinner, including a tour of their beautiful 150-year old church. At that time we found out from Patty Williams, the Affiliate leader, that we might not be working at the build site the entire week. The Affiliate has a Resale store that they wanted us to help them clean up and organize. We all thought we could help them out in that area.

Monday we arrived on the job thinking we would get rained out, but that didn't happen. Instead we began digging the footing ditch. We did have a contractor with us the first day. The second day we had a supervisor, Joe, who was familiar with the building plans. We worked Monday and Tuesday until the plumbing had to be put in; it didn't look promising about getting that accomplished until Friday.
Wednesday, Thursday and Friday we worked in the store. Miracle of miracles, the plumber came Friday and Joe was able to get the county inspector to check the job on his lunch hour. We were then able to go back on Saturday to shovel sand and fill in the sewer line ditch. The affiliate appreciated our help and Patty Williams told us we had put them ahead three weeks. Two of our group worked Saturday at the store.
Area churches provided lunches, and snacks were donated by the Western Area FMCA. |
