Annual Meeting FMCA CHAPTER: HABITAT FOR HUMANITY®

Albuquerque, NM -- March 18, 2004

Present: President/VP [Build Coordinator] Walden, Sec/Treas. Fridline, Nat’l Dir Laymon, Alt Nat’l Dir Johnson, 37 member families were represented, 3 delinquent member families were represented, 4 visitor families were represented; Absent: VP [Communications] Hebert, Immediate Past President Starz; Vacant Office: Vice President [Membership]

President Walden called the meeting to order at 1:00 PM MST. Myrna Brost sang O’Canada accompanied by Jay Blumenthal. Jay played the US National Anthem while Chapter members sang. President Walden led the Chapter in the Pledge of Allegiance. Linda Gercken led the Chapter in devotions.

Pres Walden introduced Chapter, Nat’l and Area Officers and new Chapter members. Reading of the minutes from the Hamburg, NY meeting was dispensed with.

The Chapter has $7,001.64 on deposit with Wells Fargo and $59,703.78 in the Chapter build fund in Americus, GA, plus $1,369 in recent income. Treasurer Fridline reported that since taking office two years ago, the Chapter has received donations to the build fund from a number of chapters.

We currently have 310 Chapter members (218 with dues paid; 15 new members and 77 delinquent members).

Nat’l Dir Laymon reported a $10 increase in annual FMCA dues; for a limited time, there is an opportunity to pay $100 for 5 years. At the INTO meeting, Nat’l Pres Wilson presented the Chapter with a 5-year award. HFH® has been designated an official charity by the INTO. There will be an election for Nat’l officers at Redmond. 55% of the Governing Board is in favor of exploring the possibility of an FMCA permanent site. Members who volunteered in the Chapter booth were thanked.

Ideas for newsletter articles should be sent via President Walden.

The Build Coordinator discussed recent and upcoming builds and the JCWP in 2005 [possibly in Cass County].

Pres Walden discussed the GV&DC in Americus. It is recommended that, over a 1- to 2-year period, the Chapter build a GV&DC house funded by another corporation. It also is recommended that the Chapter sponsor a home in that country for approx $5,000 and a $1,000 plaque in the GV&DC courtyard. Input was solicited either in person or via e-mail for build ideas.

Jim Marble suggested that the Chapter build for a struggling affiliate that needs help. President Walden responded that we were looking at that in Minot, which is a poor area.

Jean Pryor, Chairperson of the Bylaws and Standing Rules Committee gave a report on proposed Bylaw and Standing Rule amendments. Proposed amendments were adopted. President Walden thanked the committee members and asked Tom Braum to publish the amended Bylaws and Standing Rules on the Chapter Web Site.

Bill McLaughlin presented the annual Audit Report.

It was moved and adopted that a tape recorder be purchased to tape meetings.

President Walden appealed to the membership to keep their personal data up to date.

President Walden thanked the Nominating Committee for their efforts.

David Fridline was presented with a framing hammer in recognition of his service as Secretary/Treasurer for the 2002-2004 term.

Bobbie & Clarice Mangum and Fred O’Donnell asked for brief build team meetings for those on the Deming and Belen builds.

Dale Johnson announced that he needs volunteers for the booth at the Claremore Rally.

Drop-ins are always welcome in Los Cruces and Santa Fe

The Chapter will make a $50 donation to HFH® in memory of Stephen Pool.

A new Nominating Committee was elected as follows: Jerry Langenfeld – Chair; Jim Marble; Art Gercken; Carol Lee – Alt; Bill Ferguson – Alt. Sylvia Hicks presented the new Nominating Committee with written guidelines.

Acknowledgment was given to Nancy Jo Fridline for signing in members and guests and selling Chapter Coach Plaques and T-shirts.

Meeting adjourned at 2:19 PM MST. Following adjournment, a drawing was held for door prizes.
